When traveling with your pet internationally, there are health requirements specific to each country. Regulations can cause confusion and ultimately delay transportation if they are not met to the country’s specifications. Almost every country has different laws for entering with pets whether by ground or air.
A new regulation states that dogs and cats being transported into Mexico are no longer required to have a health certificate. However upon arrival, travelers must visit the Mexican Animal and Plant Health Inspection Office (OISA). SENASICA will then preform a proper evaluation of each animal. This waives the prior requirement for pets going to Mexico from the United States to have a health certificate.
Mexico will be check each pet for the following:
- dog(s) and cat(s)do not present signs of infectious and contagious diseases
- dog(s) and cat(s) is/are free of ectoparasites
- dog(s) and cat(s) do not present fresh wounds or wounds in a healing process

Airlines have their own specifications for transport. A health certificate may be required for transport even though it is not a regulation that Mexico has for import. These regulations may also differ depending on which airline is being used for transport.
