When traveling with your pet internationally, there are health requirements specific to each country. Regulations can cause confusion and ultimately delay transportation if they are not met to the country’s specifications. Almost every country has different laws for entering with pets whether by ground or air.
In order to travel with your pet to France, there are multiple steps that you must follow in order to have your pet import the country from the US. First ask yourself, “does your pet have an EU Pet PAssport?” This is a document used to make travel into the European Union simpler. If your pet has a valid EU Pet Passport, and their rabies vaccination is up to date, then all they need is their EU Passport in order to travel back into the EU. If your pet does not have an EU pet passport, or their information on their passport is not up to date, then the following steps are required in order for Pet Transport to France.
- Your pet must have an ISO compatible microchip placed under their skin for identification once arriving in the country.
2. Rabies Vaccination
- Your pet must have an up to date rabies vaccination in order to enter France. Your pet should be accompanied with a copy of their certificate of vaccination. Rabies vaccination should occur at least 21 days before transport and also should occur the same day or after their ISO compatible microchip is implanted. If your pet is under 15 weeks, your pet is NOT permitted to enter the country.
3. Health Certificate
- In order to transport your pet into France, they must be accompanied by a health certificate. The type of health certificate depends on the type of pet transport. A Non-Commercial or Commercial EU Health Certificate must be signed by a USDA licensed Veterinarian and then have it signed and endorsed by the APHIS office.
Air Pet Transport to France
Airlines have their own specifications for pet transport. A separate health certificate may be required for pet transport into France. These regulations may also differ depending on which airline is being used for transport.
